The Coachella music fest without the food trucks, portable potties and camping? A mini version of the annual multi-day concert will feature British pop band Pulp, Sleigh Bells, Girl Talk and others aboard two Caribbean cruises in December.

Cruises seem way too upscale for what’s officially known as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which was born in the 1980s in Indio, Calif., as a gritty punk rock fest. Still, fans are faithful to the brand, and they may pony up to hear 20 bands during four-day cruises aboard the SS Coachella, a.k.a. the Celebrity Silhouette.

Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Pacific time Saturday for trips to the Bahamas on Dec. 16-19 and to Jamaica on Dec. 19-23. The cheapest fares for inside staterooms start at $500 per person for four or $750 per person for two. The highest price currently showing on the festival’s website is $1,500 per person for two sharing a stateroom with a veranda.

Prices don’t include taxes, tips, shore excursions and a whopping $200 booking fee -- or the price of getting to and from departure port Fort Lauderdale. Those who want to be first in line should create a ticket purchase account now before tickets go on sale. Passengers must be 21 or older to buy tickets and have a valid passport to go on the cruises.

What are the chances it will sell out? Hard to say. General admission and VIP advance tickets for Coachella 2013 sold out in less than a day when they went on sale in May. The Celebrity Silhouette can carry 2,886 passengers on 16 decks.

Coachella organizer Goldenvoice grossed $47.3 million for the dual festivals in 2012, this L.A. Times story says. The original land festival Coachella 2013 will be held in Indio on the weekends of April 12 and 19.
