Spain’s Mesozoic museum

There’s a new stop for travelers to northern Spain: the Jurassic Museum of Asturias, housing more than 8,000 fossils and other remains of dinosaurs, crocodiles and birds.

The Asturias region, between the Bay of Biscayne and the Cantabrian Mountains, is rich in fossils and footprints from the Mesozoic era from 245 million to 66 million years ago, which includes the Jurassic period, when dinosaurs dominated the land.

The museum is open Wednesdays to Sundays; it will be open daily from July 15 to Sept. 15. Hours vary. Adult admission is about $6. www.museojurasico.com.

China SARS cases probed

Beijing

Concern grew last week over a renewed outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, in China, although health agencies did not issue travel advisories.

China had isolated more than 600 people in Beijing as of the Travel section’s deadline Tuesday. The nation was racing to sever a chain of infection that leaked from a laboratory before millions traveled for the May Day holidays. World Health Organization experts were traveling to China to help the government investigate the outbreak.

“This is still not a significant public health threat,” said Bob Dietz, Beijing-based spokesman for the WHO. For updates, visit www.who.int.

Flights reach

new heights

In another sign of the travel rebound, there are more domestic airline flights scheduled this month than for any May since 2001, before the Sept. 11 attacks that year discouraged air travel, said the Executive Travel SkyGuide and Seabury Airline Planning Group, which specializes in aviation planning and management.
