New York: Paul Simon to perform at Baseball Hall of Fame concert
Paul Simon stands to hit one out of the ballpark at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s 75th anniversary concert in August in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Simon, a baseball fan, will share the stage with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and former New York Yankees center fielder-turned-musician Bernie Williams.
Simon is slated to sing three songs at the concert set for Aug. 2, according to a Hall of Fame release. The event marks the 75th year since Stephen Carlton Clark opened the Hall of Fame in the just-barely-post-Depression town in New York state, according to the website. It comes six days after 2014 induction ceremonies for incoming Hall of Famers Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Frank Thomas, Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa and Joe Torre.
Concert tickets are on sale now for $100 to $400 for the event at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. For fans who want to make a weekend of it, Sports Travel and Tours offers concert tickets and lodgings -- budget to luxe -- for an Aug. 1-3 stay.
On the low end, the Lawn Travel Package costs $675 per person based on double occupancy and includes rooms at a Comfort Inn in Albany, round-trip bus travel to Cooperstown, lawn seating for the concert and unlimited entry to the Hall of Fame.
The Premium Travel Package comes with a special National Baseball Hall of Fame Fender Squier Guitar (one per reservation). The package costs $1,990 per person based on double occupancy with lodgings at the Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, soundcheck access and premium seats for the concert, car rental and unlimited entry to the Hall of Fame.
