In February of 1999, the Los Angeles Times (LAT) and Media News Group (LANG) jointly acquired California Independent Postal Systems (CIPS) Marketing Group Inc., a Southern California based provider of alternative distribution services for advertising preprints. Acquiring CIPS enabled the LAT and LANG to offer integrated weekend delivery to major retail preprint advertisers. Advertisers use CIPS to efficiently reach all of the households in a given zip code in Southern California by a combination of in-paper insertions and unduplicated door-to-door distribution.
