Oscar liveblog: Ben Stiller’s Blue Man Group moment

7:08 pm: In the it-happened-half-an-hour-ago-but-we’re-catching-up-to-it-now department, Ben Stiller totally one-ups his Joaquin Phoenix imitation from the Spirits last year when he comes out dressed as a Na’vi and speaking same and presents best makeup.

‘The ironic thing is, ‘Avatar’ wasn’t even nominated’ he says as he tries to control his tail. Then he says he’s going to step away ‘so as not to demean [the winner’s] moment of triumph.’

Cameron looks amused, then bemused, but you have to give Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic credit for trying something so zany and performance art-y (we’re still wondering how Stiller got his eyeballs to look so yellow).
