Claire Noland joined the news obituaries department in 2006 and has been Obituary Editor since July 2009. She was previously a Senior Assistant Sports Editor and has worked for The Times since 1994. A Southern California native, she graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles and started her journalism career at the Antelope Valley Press. She worked as a copy editor at the Los Angeles Daily News and Minneapolis Star Tribune before coming to The Times. Obituaries she has written have spanned a wide range, including modernist architect Ralph Rapson, tuba player Tommy Johnson, Hawaiian shirt designer Alfred Shaheen and Los Angeles Rams great Lamar Lundy.
