The fall gallery season kicks off today, and coordinated openings in several adjacent spaces around town should provide for pedestrian-traffic jams. (Watch out, Culver City, where a slew of 6 p.m. opening receptions are planned.) In some of the densest gallery neighborhoods, expect some changes.

In Chinatown, a few stalwarts like Mary Goldman and Black Dragon Society have closed, while others are newly arriving: SolwayJones moves from Mid-Wilshire to enter a partnership with High Energy Constructs, for example, while Jancar relocates from Koreatown, and David Patton moves from York Boulevard, both to Chung King Road. Roberts+Tilton joins the burgeoning crew in Culver City, while ACME plans expansion into R+T’s former space in the 6150 Wilshire complex.

There are several more shifts, which is par for the course in the always rearranging L.A. gallery scene. Things were pretty quiet in the galleries in late August, but by this time next Saturday, well over 125 new shows should be available to peruse.
