Constantine Maroulis -- the goofy, long-haired ‘American Idol’ finalist -- received acclaim last year for his performance in Broadway’s ‘Rock of Ages.’ Now the star is set to bring his Tony-nominated role to the Pantages Theatre as a part of the musical’s first national tour.

Organizers announced Thursday that Maroulis will star in the national tour of ‘Rock of Ages,’ which is scheduled to kick off in Chicago in September. The tour will play at the Pantages in Hollywood for a two-week engagement Feb. 15-27.

In addition, the tour will play at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa March 1 to 6.

Maroulis has performed in the Broadway production of ‘Rock of Ages’ since it opened last season. The jukebox musical, featuring a book by Chris D’Arienzo, tells the story of a group of aspiring rock musicians trying to make it big on the Sunset Strip during the ‘80’s.

The show features hair-metal songs by Journey, Styx, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake and others.

‘Rock of Ages’ was a surprise audience and critical hit when it opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre last April, garnering a total of five Tony nominations, including one for best musical. The show previously played in L.A. and Las Vegas before moving to Broadway.

Kristin Hanggi, a veteran of the L.A. theater scene, directed the Broadway production and will also stage the national tour.

A film version of ‘Rock of Ages’ is in the works, with Adam Shankman slated to direct.
