Wooster Group to return for REDCAT’s fall 2010 season

The return of the Wooster Group with the U.S. premiere of its new work ‘Vieux Carré,’ is among the highlights of REDCAT’s fall 2010 performance season, which will begin in September.
REDCAT, the CalArts alternative arts space located at Walt Disney Concert Hall, will present a range of theater, dance, music, visual art and experimental film and video throughout the season.
The Wooster Group will present its version of Tennessee Williams’ ‘Vieux Carré’ from Dec. 1 to 12. The U.S. premiere production features the New York’s group’s multimedia deconstruction of Williams’ drama set in a New Orleans boarding house.
Other theater offerings include: ‘In the Solitude of Cotton Fields’(Sept. 23 to 26) from the Radoslaw Rychcik/Stefan Zeromski Theatre; ‘Reverend Billy and the Life After Shopping Gospel Choir’(Oct. 21); ‘Venlo’ (Nov. 17 to 21) from the Dutch ensemble group Wunderbaum’; and ‘Show Your Face!’ (Jan. 19 to 23) from Betontanc and Umka.lv
REDCAT’s art gallery will play host to two exhibitions this fall.
‘Not Only Time’ (Sep. 17 to Nov. 21) will feature works by video artists Zhang Peili and Zhu Jia, and ‘Decolonizing Architecture’ (Dec. 7 to Jan. 30) will investigate the West Bank through the lens of architecture.
Several dance productions will visit REDCAT in the fall: ‘Rain Coloring Forest’ (Sept. 16 to 19), from Sardono Dance Theater and lighting artist Jennifer Tipton; ‘Traditions Engaged: An International Festival of Classical Indian Dance & Music’ (Oct. 8 to 10), featuring Indian classical artists; ‘Wrought Iron Fog’ (Oct. 14 to 17), from Tere O’Connor; and ‘How Can You Stay in the House All Day and Not Go Anywhere’ (Nov. 10 to 14), from Ralph Lemon/Cross Performance.
In addition, REDCAT will host the CalArts Winter Dance program (Dec. 17 to 18), featuring a restaging of Trisha Brown’s 1983 ‘Set and Reset,’ and ‘The A.W.A.R.D. Show!’ (Jan. 13 to 16) from the Joyce Theater Foundation in New York.
Music offerings for the fall season include: an appearance by jazz musician Henry Grimes (Oct. 2); ‘Monolake Live’ (Oct. 3), featuring artist Robert Henke; ‘Champ Vital (Life Field)’ (Oct. 22), from the new music group California EAR Unit; a concert by the Wayne Horvitz Gravitas Quartet (Nov. 2); ‘Noisefold’ (Nov. 5); and a series featuring music and video-footage demonstrations by Iannis Xenakis (Jan. 28 to 30).
