Hollywood Fringe Festival returning in summer 2011

The inaugural Hollywood Fringe Festival took place this past summer and featured off-beat stage offerings that courted the weird, the avant garde and the downright silly.
A kind of West Coast version of the annual New York International Fringe Festival, the event featured 175 different artistic groups from various genres of performing and visual arts.
Apparently, a good thing deserves a second helping. Organizers said Wednesday that the Hollywood Fringe Festival is scheduled to return in June 2011 with new programming, including previews the week prior to the big event.
The 2011 festival is slated to run June 16 to 26, and is open and non-curated. The organization said any artistic group that is able to book a venue within the festival’s boundaries may register, and that ‘traditional theater spaces as well as found spaces (or DIY venues) are encouraged.’
Registration for the Hollywood Fringe is a three-step process that begins Feb. 1 The first step is the creation of a project page on the festival’s website while the second step requires that the project be booked at a participating venue. All registrations must be complete before April 1.
Fringe festivals have popped up around the world following the success of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which draws various international groups, from renowned performers (Joan Rivers once performed there) to unknowns looking to make their name in the theater world.
