Broadway actors are always looking for ways to parlay their theater success into the more lucrative world of television. Among the latest batch of stage stars who will be booking flights from JFK to Burbank in the future is Tony-winner Sutton Foster, who has conquered Broadway more than once in the musicals ‘Anything Goes,’ ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ and ‘The Drowsy Chaperone.’

Foster will star in a pilot for an ABC Family series titled ‘Bunheads.’ The series is about a Las Vegas showgirl named Michelle (Foster) who gets married and moves to a coastal town where she becomes involved in her new mother-in-law’s dance school.

Robin Finn, a spokeswoman for ABC Family, said ‘Bunheads’ is in the casting stages and hasn’t been picked up yet. The series is from Amy Sherman-Palladino, who was the creator of the popular WB series ‘Gilmore Girls.’

Foster is currently starring in ‘Anything Goes’ in New York and it remains unclear how long she will continue with the show, which is scheduled to run through April 2012. ABC Family is tentatively looking to shoot the pilot in the the L.A. area sometime in November, according to Finn.

This wouldn’t be Foster’s first time going the TV route. She had a small recurring role in the series ‘Flight of the Conchords’ and has put in the obligatory ‘Law & Order’ appearance.
