The L.A. Beer Float Showdown returns for L.A. Beer Week on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Eagle Rock Brewery. Five chefs are teaming up with five California breweries to develop the best beer float, for top honors and 500 bucks. Every attendee is a judge and will vote on flavor, originality and presentation.

The five teams are: chef Ilan Hall of the Gorbals with Tustin Brewery brewmaster and Smog City Brewing Co. owner Jonathan Porter; chef CJ Jacobson of the Yard with Firestone Walker representative Jace Milstead; chef Laurent Quenioux of Vertical Wine Bistro and LQ@SK with Beachwood BBQ & Brewing brewmaster Julian Shrago and co-owner Gabe Gordon; chefs Andre Guerrero and Jan Purdy of the Oinkster and Maximiliano with Eagle Rock Brewery brewmaster Jeremy Raub; and chef Thi Tran and Nguyen Tran of Starry Kitchen with Ladyface Ale Companie brewmaster Dave Griffiths and owner Cyrena Nouzille.

Neri’s Curbside Cravings will be there selling Filipino food, such as crispy lechon kawali (that’s deep-fried slabs of pork belly with garlic fried rice and pickled slaw) and tapsilog (beef marinated in garlic, vinegar and soy,
served with garlic fried rice, fried egg and pickled slaw) and more.

$35 per person; 25% of event proceeds will go to Share Our Strength, a charity working to eliminate childhood hunger. Go to for more information. Buy tickets online.
