Dodgers overdue to officially name DeWitt the starter

It’s taken too long to officially name Blake DeWitt the Dodgers’ starting second baseman.
What more can the guy do?
He’s done everything asked. He’s consistently been one of their top hitters all spring, batting .358, slugging .566 and with an on-base average of .452.
Defensively, he’s not going to threaten for a Gold Glove any time soon. He’s never going to have the range of Orlando Hudson. But the converted third baseman has been adequate and figures to improve.
He’s young (24), offers a future. He’s the guy they wanted to win the job. Hasn’t he won it?
So announce it already. It’s not like there’s much suspense left, but he’s earned it and deserves to break camp knowing he’s won the daily starting second base job.
He may have to share more time than most regulars, as Manager Joe Torre finds ways to get Jamey Carroll and Ronnie Belliard into the game, but that’s OK for now.
For now, officially name DeWitt the starter.
