Over the course of her career, fiber artist Denyse Schmidt has elevated quilts from the bedroom to the walls of museums. Her ability to create modern, minimalist designs with an incredible color sensibility has landed her custom quilts in stores like Takashimaya in New York where they fetch as much as $250 per square foot. Recently, she was invited to participate in the Philip Johnson Glass House Commissions program, at which she created a limited-edition, austere (naturally) quilt inspired by the historic house. Luckily, Schmidt has a quilt line for us regular folk: Denyse Schmidt Designs for Sarita Handa, an affordable version of her quilts and accessories, which is on sale through July 3 at discounts of 20%. The 100% cotton twin-size Spool quilt pictured here -- most quilts are designed with contrasting front and back -- normally $335, is now $268. The summer sale also includes table linens, pillows and baby items. For more information, go to dsquilts.com or call (800) 621-9017.
