Pedestrian killed by train in Vernon

A man was struck and killed by a southbound Metro Blue Line train about 5 p.m. Friday in Vernon, causing delays of several hours to riders.

The incident happened near the Vernon Station at 4421 South Long Beach Ave. No passengers were injured, said Erik Scott, a spokesman with the Los Angeles Fire Department. The pedestrian was not identified, but authorities said he was standing on the tracks.

Buses were shuttling passengers between Slauson and Washington. All trains are running to the Long Beach Transit Mall.
