The Los Angeles Zoo is opening its doors for an after-hours World Music Night on tonight from 6 to 9. There will be traditional marimba music from Zimbabwe (the Masanga Marimba Ensemble, for those who are fans) as well as African drummers and dancers. There will also be Caribbean music performers, Scottish music, the Klezmer music of Oystars and more.

Some of the zoo’s animal inhabitants will stay up past their bedtimes and be out on exhibit (but only until 8 p.m.). A giraffe and her calf, nuzzling in the picture above, will be among the animals out for a little night music. Picnics are permitted. The zoo’s food and beverage concessions will be open as well.

Admission is $16.50 for adults and $10.50 for children -- unless you’re 5 or younger, in which case you get in free. Members of the zoo association (GLAZA) pay reduced fees: $12.50 for adults and $7.50 for children over 5. Tickets may be bought at the zoo or by phone (323) 644-6042.
