Any pop-culture watcher worth his or her salt could have told you this moment was coming. The so-called Cult of Snuggie -- Snuggie, of course, being the synthetic-fleece blanket with sleeves whose late-night commercials have made it a household name -- has expanded its scope to include dogs.
Meet the Snuggie for Dogs -- essentially the same product but, well, made for dogs. (After all, dogs like being couch potatoes, too. Plus, as the above commercial puts so eloquently, regular pet sweaters fulfill essentially the same purpose as a Snuggie for Dogs, ‘but they pull and they’re tight!’)
‘The original Snuggie blanket was such a success, we decided to extend the product line to include the entire family, which, for many of us, means a dog,’ Anne Flynn, director of marketing for the company behind all things Snuggie, told the Chicago Tribune of the rationale behind the new product. Snuggie for Dogs comes in blue and pink and is available in four sizes in order to corner the canine market, from standard to teacup.
‘Every once in a while, a product transcends advertising to become part of pop culture,’ Scott Boilen, the president of Snuggie’s parent company, told USA Today about the original product earlier this year. We bet trendy purse dogs everywhere are now breathing a sigh of relief that they can finally join in the cult of Snuggie fun.
