In case you were worried the whole Randy and Evi Quaid saga couldn’t get any weirder, we’re here to ease your fears.
Turns out Evi is Canadian.
What’s not really any weirder than it has been, however, is Randy’s reasoning to seeking asylum in his bride’s new country, which he expressed again Thursday after a short hearing before the Immigration and Refugee Board in Vancouver, B.C.
‘I’m being embezzled by this monstrous ring of accountants, estate planners and lawyers who are mercilessly slandering me and trying to kill my career and, I believe, murder me in order to gain control of my royalties,’ Quaid said, the Vancouver Sun reports.
The Quaids were freed Wednesday in Vancouver, B.C., after the Canadian Border Services Agency got proof of her dad’s place of birth and declared her a citizen.
During the Friday hearing in which they requested asylum, fearing their lives were in danger from ‘Hollywood star whackers,’ Evi Quaid repeatedly said her father was a Canadian FBI agent. Um, say what?
Turns out she meant Dad was a Canadian fella who’d moved to the United States and begun working for the FBI. The hearing was held after the two were arrested Oct. 21 on outstanding U.S. warrants after they failed to show in court in Santa Barbara on Oct. 18. So while Evi’s a citizen and can live and work in the Great White North, Randy’s situation remains a little more vague. He’s out of detention, border agents said, and his case will proceed through immigration channels.
‘I just want a place were I can work … and not feel as if people are following me,’ said the 60-year-old actor, who is exploring ‘options’ on how to keep his career going in Vancouver.
Canadian or not, they’re still both due in court in Santa Barbara on Nov. 2 to face felony vandalism charges related to their alleged occupancy and accompanying destruction in the guest house of a property they’d owned years ago.
Immediately after their release Wednesday, the Quaids went to rescue their dog, Doji, who’d been in animal services’ care since they were nabbed near their full-to-the-brim blue Prius.
