Hines Ward of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ — whom some might know better as a Super Bowl MVP who plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers — was held at gunpoint by police early Thursday in L.A. in what turned out to be a mix-up about a car that hadn’t been stolen.
The ‘Dancing With the Stars’ contestant was a passenger in a Honda Civic that was being driven by its owner, a woman who had called the cops last month to report the car stolen after a restaurant valet couldn’t find it, then neglected to call off the cops after it was found. She was not identified.
The officers who pulled the car over around 2 a.m. held Ward and the woman at gunpoint and handcuffed them while they sorted out the situation, a police spokeswoman said.
Ward seemed gracious and zen about the situation, despite the guns and cuffs. ‘I want everyone to know that this was a complete misunderstanding,’ he said on Twitter. ‘The police were just doing their job. Apologies were made and it’s now in the past.’
Law enforcement, incidentally, gave Hines a ‘10’ for being cooperative and understanding during the incident, according to TMZ. Check him out above, sans handcuffs, dancing the tango with ‘Dancing With the Stars’ partner Kym Johnson.
