Cadillac CTS Wagon/SRX: Fun with embargoes

I was just decamping from my hotel room to make the slog over to Pebble Beach so that I would not miss the reveal of Cadillac’s new models, the 2010 SRX crossover and the very rocking CTS sport wagon. General Motors had sent embargoed photos to journalists but made it clear they could not be published until noon Eastern time. Dutiful me, respectable me. Except that every single website in the universe put up the pictures yesterday. Oh, sure, you can expect that from the groundlings of the blogosphere, but a real newspaper would never break such an embargo, would it? Then I opened the USA Today at my door and there — several hours before noon EST — is a story, with pics of the CTS wagon, high and center on B1. Sigh.

The good news is that the CTS sport wagon looks terrific. I’ve long been an advocate of sport wagons — notably Saab’s SportCombi, BMW’s Touring models and Audi’s A4 and A6 Avant. These have most of the functionality of a SUV with all the scoot of a proper sport sedan. The CTS sport wagon seems to return pretty decent mileage as well, estimated to be 26 mpg for the 3.6-liter, 304-horsepower V-6 with all-wheel drive (as first reported in USA Today!).

The better news is that I don’t have to haul myself over to Pebble Beach and can go directly to the Quail, where a tall, cold glass of hot sports car awaits. In the meantime, enjoy these pics.
