Folding bicycles that can fold at the wrong time are being recalled by manufacturers.

These bicycles include hinges that allow them to be folded into sizes that make them easier to store on buses, trains or under desks. But according to an alert issued today by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, some 2008 models sold under the Dahon and REI labels include handlepost hinges that can crack, posing a fall hazard.

There are 17 models, sold between March 2008 to the present, that are being recalled. The full list can be found on the agency alert.

If you have one of these bikes, the commission says you should stop riding it and take it into a Dahon dealer or REI store for inspection and repair.
