Ventura County residents driven from their homes by the recent Guiberson fire may be eligible to be reimbursed by their insurance companies for living expenses during mandatory evacuations, the state Department of Insurance says. ‘Many policies cover additional living expenses,” including hotel stays and meals, said Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner. The fire, which started Sept. 22, has burned more than 17,000 acres and is now 75% contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Consumers who have questions about their policies can call the Department of Insurance at (800) 927-4357.
