The House was supposed to convene Saturday to pass a healthcare overhaul bill, but a top Democrat indicated today that the vote may slip.

On a conference call this morning, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland said he expects the House to vote on the more than $1-trillion bill by 8 p.m. Saturday.

“Unless there are delaying tactics,” Hoyer said on the conference call, organized by Families USA, “I think we can finish debate by tomorrow night.”

But many representatives want to speak, and Hoyer indicated Democratic leaders are working to get to the 218 votes needed for passage. The vote could slip until Sunday or even next week, he said.
