White House cites oil spill in canceling Obama’s trip to Australia, Indonesia

President Obama canceled a trip that had been set for this month to Australia and Indonesia to deal with the ongoing oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico and other matters, the White House said early Friday.

Although the announcement gave no reason for the cancellation, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told Reuters by e-mail that it was ‘to deal with important issues including the BP oil spill.’
