Track Palin -- Sarah Palin’s oldest son -- expanded the Palin clan Sunday night when his new wife, Britta, gave birth to a baby girl, Kyla Grace Palin. The birth follows the May announcement that Track and Britta had married.

The birth was confirmed in a most unusual fashion. Journalist Joe McGinniss, who is writing a book about the former vice presidential candidate, posted the news on his blog in a post titled ‘Sarah’s a Grandma again.’ How does he know? He’s been the subject of criticism for moving into the house next door to the Palins’ Alaskan abode to keep close tabs on the clan.

Palin first became a grandmother when her daughter Bristol Palin became an unwed mother at age 18. Bristol has since become an advocate for abstinence.

While little is known about Britta’s relationship with her new mother-in-law, she is well known to the Palin family. She was a roommate with Bristol -- Track’s younger sister -- when in Anchorage and worked as an executive secretary in the governor’s office when Sarah Palin was the governor of Alaska, according to a People magazine report.

Britta is currently a nursing student at the University of Alaska, and Track Palin reportedly plans to study there at the end of the commercial fishing season, the magazine says. Track is currently an Army Reservist.
