USA Cycling today finalized its Olympic teams, and that includes the BMX team.

As expected, Napa’s Donnie Robinson secured the final berth on the BMX team, joining automatic qualifiers Kyle Bennett of Conroe, Texas, on the men’s side and Jill Kintner of Seattle on the women’s. Also having qualified this year was Mike Day of Santa Clarita, who punched his ticket to Beijing with a win in last month’s Olympic Trials, which we covered.

Robinson earned the coaches’ pick based on his consistent history of recording top results at the international level.

Among Robinson’s performances that factored into his selection were first-place finishes at the 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Beijing last August, which also served as the official Olympic test event, and the third round of the 2008 series in Copenhagen in May.

Robinson is currently the top-ranked men’s BMX athlete in the world and leads the overall 2008 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup standings.
