Snowboard cross season ends on high note for U.S.

Nick Baumgartner of Iron River, Mich., finished second in the final World Cup snowboard cross event of the season Friday in Valmalenco, Italy, giving him third place in the overall World Cup standings.

Markus Schairer of Austria finished first in the overall standings and Seth Westcott of Sugarloaf, Maine, was second. Among the women, Lindsey Jacobellis of Stratton Mountain, Vt., didn’t compete Friday but still finished first in the overall World Cup standings.

‘I knew how important it was to have a great year this year to set myself up for making the Olympic team because we have such depth,’ Baumgartner told the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Assn.
