Support continues to build for candidates in some of next year’s hot congressional races.

Rep. Janice Hahn (D-San Pedro) added some of her former colleagues on the Los Angeles City Council to her list of supporters. Councilmen Richard Alarcon, Ed Reyes and Jose Huizar all endorsed Hahn, who left the council after winning a special election to the House of Representatives in July. Her main competition in the June 2012 primary is expected to come from Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Long Beach) and Assemblyman Isadore Hall (D-Compton).

Former state Sen Denise Moreno Ducheny (D-San Diego) last week announced more than 70 endorsements from community and political leaders, including former Assemblywoman Mary Salas (D-San Diego) in her effort to get a jump on the competition for a seat in the newly drawn 51st Congressional District. State Sen. Juan Vargas (D-San Diego) also plans to run for the seat, setting up an intraparty fight. Vargas narrowly defeated Salas for the state Senate seat last year.

Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez is backing state Sen. Ron Calderon (D-Montebello), who is running for Congress from the new 38th District. Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Lakewood) also is seeking that seat, so look for yet another intraparty dustup.
