‘Twin Peaks’: Still Kyle MacLachlan’s favorite role

Kyle MacLachlan has had a healthy career, with roles in films, yes, and on shows such as “Sex and the City” and “Desperate Housewives.” But 20 years after “Twin Peaks” hit network television, a lot of people still remember him for his role as Special Agent Dale Cooper. And that just might be OK with the actor.

As MacLachlan recently told writer Michael Giltz for an article on our sister blog Hero Complex, “That perhaps is my most favorite character I’ve ever done.”

Indeed, the David Lynch-Mark Frost series was not only a boon for MacLachlan’s career, but it also presaged a number of trends, including Internet-based fan obsession. How to explain it?

Lynch himself won’t try.

“When you make something, you don’t know what’s going to happen when you release it into the world,” Lynch said. “And when something like ‘Twin Peaks’ goes like it did, you just stand back and you just can’t ... there’s no … you did not control and make it happen. Something else is going on.”
