ACTS OF WAR: “Whale Wars” returns for a new season with “Road to the Showdown” at 8 p.m., followed by the season premiere at 9 on Animal Planet.

Flashpoint: A delusional man (Aaron Poole) takes hostages at a restaurant because he believes the owner (Patrick Sabongui) is a terrorist planning an attack in this new episode (8 p.m. CBS).

Friday Night Lights: Vince’s (Michael B. Jordan) arrogance alienates his teammates and Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) fears that he’s starting to lose control of the team, while Tami (Connie Britton) worries about one of her students, who shows signs of being neglected in this new episode (8 p.m. NBC).

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution: Jamie and his 10 culinary students are banned from serving food at West Adams Preparatory High School in this new episode (9 p.m. ABC).

Outrageous Food: In the new episode Tony Pizzica tries his hand at America’s largest grill, which weighs 27 tons. He also checks out some seriously hot wings in Portland, Ore., and visits a restaurant in Muskegon, Mich., that makes a 10-pound hash brown (10 p.m. Food).

Urban Legends: A female serial killer goes on a crime spree in the season finale (10 p.m. Syfy).

MOVIES

Too Big to Fail: William Hurt and Edward Asner star in this 2011 TV docudrama (8 p.m. HBO).

Wild Things: One of the steamiest major studio movies of recent times, this 1998 melodrama casts Neve Campbell and Denise Richards as Florida high-school students who hatch a plot to accuse a guidance counselor (Matt Dillon) of rape, but a police detective (Kevin Bacon) thinks there’s more to the story than they’re telling (9:10 p.m. Cinemax).

SPORTS

College softball: NCAA World Series: Game 5 (4 p.m. ESPN); Game 6 (6:30 p.m. ESPN).

Baseball: The Dodgers visit the Cincinnati Reds (4 p.m. FS Prime); ); the Chicago Cubs visit the St. Louis Cardinals (5 p.m. WGN A); the New York Yankees visit the Angels (7 p.m. FSN).
