There was a very interesting statistic in today’s Chicago Tribune.

The Cubs and Dodgers, who meet in the NL playoffs starting Wednesday in Chicago, first faced each other in 1890. They have played each other 2,024 times. The record is 1,012-1,012.

The Tribune predicts the Cubs will win in five but gives the edge to the Dodgers in a couple of categories, including intangibles. When is the last time the historically chemistry-challenged Dodgers had an edge in intangibles? Did you say 1988?

The Sun-Times also likes the new Dodgers with Manny Ramirez.

Can you believe this is Kerry Wood’s 11th season? Seems like yesterday he was the young phenom who was going to be a mainstay in the Cubs’ rotation for a decade or more. Well, at least he’s been there for a decade.

The Cubs are off today, but outfielder Mark DeRosa and pitcher Carlos Zambrano are working.
