Ben Eager of the Chicago Blackhawks was suspended without pay for three games after earning a match penalty against the Dallas Stars. Eager was on the bench at the time, but swung his stick at ... [wait for it]

... Sean Avery.

Not the first time someone was eager to get at the former Kings player, whose relationship with other NHL players is far from warm and fuzzy. Fortunately for players, the NHL can’t penalize anyone for thinking about hurting Avery. Nearly everyone would be in the box.

Eager will lose $9677.43 during the suspension. No word yet if whether league players are taking up a collection.

Of course, going after Avery was a better bet than taking on 41-yard old Gary Roberts.

Ben was a little too eager in that one.
