The St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders had the idea first -- fire the head coach less than halfway into the season.

Now it looks like the San Francisco 49ers might follow suit. ESPN’s Michael Smith reported today that the 49ers are going to fire Mike Nolan after this weekend’s game against Seattle.

The 49ers are 2-5, having lost four in a row.

Tom Cable, who took over as Raiders coach after owner Al Davis fired Lane Kiffin, got his first head coaching victory Sunday, 16-13 in overtime, over Brett Favre and the New York Jets.
