LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers open the NBA season tonight in Boston, but they won’t be watching as the Celtics get their NBA championship rings during a pre-game ceremony.

James told cleveland.com that the Cavs will wait in the lockerroom as the Celtics hoist their 17th NBA championship banner: ‘We don’t need to be out there watching that; we need to get ready for the game. ... We don’t need to be out there clapping for them getting rings.’

Rings are very much on the mind of James, whose age now matches his uniform number: 23. Despite his youth this will be James’ sixth NBA season.

His goal for the Cavaliers is simple: ‘I’m at a point in my career now, if I don’t win an NBA championship, it’s a failure.’
