Hockey Hall of Fame broadcaster Jiggs McDonald, who has been trapped in Thailand since political protesters closed airports there early last week, may be on his way back to Toronto on Tuesday.

McDonald, the original voice of the Kings, and his wife, Marilyn, were part of a Canadian tour group that was stranded in the country after a 30-day trip around Asia. He spent his 70th birthday in a hotel there.

His daughter, Susan DeSimone, has been getting the word out about her parents’ plight and has been updating McDonald’s Facebook page. She has been in contact with them and reported that her parents, like other members of the group, have been treated well. Those who needed medications refilled were helped in that regard.

Here’s hoping for a swift and safe trip home for McDonald, a great storyteller and all-around nifty guy.
