We had a little holiday open house Sunday. According to the television ratings from those who were watching, the NBC ‘Sunday Night Football’ game (the New York Giants beat the Carolina Panthers, 34-28, in overtime) was going to be No. 1.

And it was.

According to Nielsen Media Research data provided by the NFL, the broadcast was the top-ranked prime time television program of the week. It had a market ranking of 12.9 and a 21 share -- a 30% gain over the like weekend in 2007 (Redskins against Minnesota).

The top 10 markets for the game: 1.) Charlotte (38.9/55); 2.) Greensboro, 27.0/39; 3.) New York, 19.6/29; 4.) Raleigh-Durham, 17.4/26; 5.) Greenville-Spartanburg, 17.3/25; 6.) Indianapolis, 17.1/26 7.) Richmond, 17.0/26; 8.) Nashville, 15.9/23; 9. Washington, D.C., 15.6/25; 10. Las Vegas, 14.7/23.

They really like their Panthers in the Carolinas. And there are lots of pro football fans in Vegas -- not that there’s anything wrong with that!

While they’re watching in Vegas, we’re not watching so much here. The Los Angeles market numbers were 9.8 and 19, which ranked 46th out of 56 metered markets.
