Busy day for crowd control at Australian Open

With the exception of Venus Williams’ upset loss in the second round, things have gone according to form in the Australian Open ... at least as far as tennis is concerned.

Friday, as it turned out, was Fan Depreciation Day. About 30 were involved in a chair-throwing melee between Serbian and Bosnian fans after Serbia’s Novak Djokovic beat Bosnian-born American Amer Delic. Here’s a video clip of that incident, which led to minor injuries.

After that, during Venus and Serena Williams’ two-set doubles victory over Japan’s Ayumi Morita and Germany’s Martina Muller, a streaker ran on to the court, was apprehended and banned from the event. From this short video, the streaker’s performance seemed to lack some of the panache that others have displayed in their show-all interruptions.
