The Joe Torre publicity tour continued today, as the Dodgers’ highly paid manager continued to draw attention to the Yankees -- and to his new book on his tenure there.

Frank McCourt, meanwhile, has taken his share of knocks. But his dedication and commitment to engaging the Dodgers with the community has been a hallmark of his ownership. The Dodgers brought two dozen top prospects to Los Angeles this month, not only for workouts, but to instill the concept that community service remains an important part of being a Dodger.

The Dodgers’ annual winter caravan, in which players and coaches drum up excitement for the coming season with public appearances and visits to hospitals and schools, is scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Torre won’t be there. He is scheduled to appear on David Letterman’s show to pitch his book.
