TEMPE, Ariz.--Kendry Morales hit a grand slam and four relief pitchers combined for five shutout innings today, leading the Angels to an 8-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

The Angels scored six of their runs in the second inning, with successive walks to Erick Aybar and Howie Kendrick preceding the grand slam by Morales.

The Angels were one missed pop fly from a shutout. With two on and two out in the fourth inning, Aybar misplayed a pop fly, providing the Cubs’ Bobby Scales with a gift two-run double.

Dustin Moseley gave up those two runs and no more in four innings, striking out four. Moseley, expected to start the season in the Angels’ rotation, has given up four runs in nine innings this spring, striking out eight.

Darren Oliver, Jose Arredondo and Jason Bulger each pitched one scoreless inning of relief; Sean O’Sullivan pitched two scoreless innings.

Luis Figueroa, expected to be the Angels’ triple-A shortstop, singled in his lone at-bat and is batting .667 (10 for 15) this spring.

The Angels play the Cubs again Saturday, with Joe Saunders scheduled to start for the Angels.
