SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- It’s another day in the derby for the final two spots in the Angels’ rotation, with Nick Adenhart scheduled to start and Shane Loux scheduled to follow in today’s game against the Giants.

Manager Mike Scioscia said the order does not indicate that Loux has fallen behind Adenhart and Dustin Moseley. As opening day draws closer and starters pitch into the fifth and sixth innings, Scioscia said the Angels can use minor league spring training games to accommodate starters in need of a long outing.

Anthony Ortega, who would have been a candidate for the starting rotation had he not reported to camp with a sore arm, is expected to make his Cactus League debut within the next week, Scioscia said.

Vladimir Guerrero, coming off knee surgery, is scheduled to make his spring debut Friday, Scioscia said.

Kelvim Escobar, coming off shoulder surgery, is set to throw batting practice today. He’ll do so one more time and then make his Cactus League debut, Scioscia said.

The Angels sent first baseman Mark Trumbo and pitcher Rafael Rodriguez to minor league camp.
