The Kings had some good news medically speaking Friday, while the Ducks cut their roster to a more manageable size. Kings winger Alexander Frolov skipped Friday’s practice because of what Coach Terry Murray termed a sore groin. Murray said Frolov came out of Thursday’s 2-1 shootout loss to San Jose with ‘just a little bit of sore gron’ that he felt in the middle of the third period, so Frolov was limited to off-ice workouts for the day. He’s not scheduled to play in Saturday’s exhibition against the Ducks at Staples Center, but Murray said he expected Frolov would respond to the day’s rest and be back on the ice Saturday.

Also, Jarret Stoll, who had been hampered by arthritis in his right wrist and skated Thursday for the first time, scrimmaged Friday and centered for Teddy Purcell and Dustin Brown. He’s not scheduled to play Saturday, either, but said the wrist is ‘way better... I thought maybe it would be a little sore and stiff after that first time back but it wasn’t, so pretty encouraging, for sure.’

Here’s the Kings’ planned roster for Saturday’s game:

Goal: Jonathan Bernier, Erik Ersberg

Defense: Jack Johnson-Rob Scuderi; Davis Drewiske-Matt Greene; Thomas Hickey-Alec Martinez.

Forwards: Ryan Smyth-Anze Kopitar-Justin Williams; Kyle Clifford-Brayden Schenn-Dustin Brown; Richard Clune-Michal Handzus-Wayne Simmonds; Raitis Ivanans-Brad Richardson-Kevin Westgarth.

The Ducks trimmed their training camp contingent to 53 by sending six players back to their respective junior teams. Gone are left wing Josh Brittain (Barrie of the Ontario Hockey League), defenseman Matt Clark (Brampton of the OHL), goaltender Marco Cousineau (Drummondville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League), center Nicolas Deschamps (Chicoutimi of the QMJHL), center Peter Holland (Guelph of the OHL) and defenseman Stefan Warg (Seattle of the Western Hockey League).
