The first Harris Interactive poll was released Sunday and it looks very similar to the other two major college football indexes.

In fact, the top seven schools in Harris, the Associated Press and USA Today

coaches’ polls are the same: Florida, Texas, Alabama, Louisiana State, Boise State, Virginia Tech and USC.

The Harris poll is important because it is one-third of the BCS standings formula that will decide which two schools play for the national title on Jan. 7 in the Rose Bowl

The Harris and USA Today indexes are combined with a computer component in the BCS points system. Harris in 2005 replaced the AP, which pulled out of the BCS formula but still crowns an independent champion.

The Harris poll is comprised of 114 former college football coaches, administrators and current and former media members.

The first BCS standings will be released Oct. 18
