Center Kyle Chipchura, who joined the Ducks only two weeks ago, ended a 40-game scoring drought to help put the Ducks ahead, 3-1, over the Phoenix Coyotes after two periods today at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Chipchura’s score -- his first since Jan. 3, 2008, when he was a member of the Montreal Canadiens -- came after a quick pass from left winger Matt Beleskey with 7:14 left in the period.

The Ducks’ right winger Mike Brown started the team’s scoring with a goal in the first period. The Coyotes tied it in the second period on a score by left winger Shane Doan on a pass from Scottie Upshall at the 12:12 mark.

Chipchura followed with his score and then Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf added another point on a power-play goal with 2:34 left in the period.

The Ducks led despite having 15 shots on goal compared with 30 by Phoenix.
