Blackhawks react angrily to hit by former teammate James Wisniewski

The Ducks and defenseman James Wisniewski now await the NHL’s decision on discipline for the hit that left Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook crumpled on the ice and knocked him out of Wednesday’s game.

The reviews are already in from Wisniewski’s former team, by way of the Chicago Tribune:

“That was pretty frustrating and angering,” Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said. “I’m not happy about that. Obviously, a lot of guys in this locker room know the guy who did it. It becomes pretty personal when something like that happens. He wasn’t skating in from the blue line for any other reason than to run him over and take the liberty on Seabrook.”

From Blackhawks Coach Joel Quenneville: “There are certain hits in a game that are tolerable if you have the puck,” he said.”He tried to hurt him. That’s as bad a hit as you can ever have in the game.”

Wisniewski described Seabrook as a friend and said he was “shocked” to see the effect of the hit on Seabrook on the replay.

The Blackhawks already were reeling from a hit on teammate Brian Campbell by Washington’s Alexander Ovechkin that resulted in a broken clavicle and broken rib for Campbell and a two-game suspension for Ovechkin.
