Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi, who has declined to say anything for the record about his team’s pursuit of Ilya Kovalchuk since the NHL’s free agency period began Thursday, issued a statement through a team spokesman late Friday afternoon.

It isn’t much, but here it is:

‘We have been and continue to work on a number of different scenarios. We do not anticipate any resolution tonight. If something changes we will let you know.’

So there you have it.

And if he lets us know, we’ll let you know. From all indications, the Kings are still in the hunt for Kovalchuk and don’t have much competition, if any.
