The Angels have promoted former major league infielder Rob Picciolo to bench coach, filling the vacancy that opened when Ron Roenicke was hired to manage the Milwaukee Brewers.

Picciolo had worked as an Angels minor league instructor for five years. He coached on the San Diego Padres’ major league staff for 15 years, including 10 as bench coach.

He played for the Angels, Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers during an eight-year career.
