Victor Garcia, 14, a Latino youngster, was shot by Los Angeles police officers on Venice Boulevard near Cattaraugus Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 18.

Police said that two officers heard gunshots and then saw the teenager firing into a crowd of people--youths from a rival gang, according to police. Two young men were struck and injured. When officers arrived, the teenage gunman pointed the gun in their direction, they said. Both officers, Harry Cho, 38, and Dennis Argueta, 36, fired their weapons. Victor was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died. The two young men he injured firing into the crowd were taken to hospitals and are expected to survive. A gun was recovered.
