Homicide on Vermont and Imperial

South Los Angeles on the border of Athens: Donye Giles, 23, a black man, was shot by a man who ran up to him on the street near the intersection of Imperial Highway and Vermont Avenue at about 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Struck several times in the torso, Giles fell on the sidewalk and died later at a hospital. The suspect ran away across Vermont.
