Rayvion Corsey, a 17-year-old black youth, was shot in the chest in the parking lot of this 98-cent store at the intersection of 111th Street and Vermont Avenue just east of the Harbor Freeway near Century. The shooting occured at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2.

Police met a very large group of people at the scene, including the wounded Rayvion. He was taken to a hospital by paramedics, but did not respond to treatment, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera. He was pronounced dead at 4:11 a.m. Hours later, as the detectives were investigating the crime scene, gunshots rang out from a short distance away: possible retaliation, they said, for Rayvion’s death. No one was hit.
