Larry Woods, a 50-year-old black man, died Saturday, Dec. 26, more than four hours after he was hit by a stray bullet while eating Christmas dinner at his family’s apartment in the 800 block of West 43rd Street in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s officials.

Woods was inside his family’s apartment when someone outside opened fire at a group of people about 7:50 p.m., said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner’s office.

One of the bullets came into Woods’ apartment and struck him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead early the next day, Winter said.
